Writing About the Chicago Cubs and Looking at the Team’s Past

This is actually a sad story, so I’m not going to make any jokes here.
I found this via Deadspin. A woman in New Hampshire killed a man when she sped her car into a large group of people. The impetus for such rage? Yankees-Red Sox.
According to the story, the original argument between Ivonne Hernandez and a large group of people had nothing to do with baseball. But when the group found out that Hernandez was a Yankees fan, they berated her with anti-Yankees chant. So she tried to scare them and, instead, struck 29-year old Matthew Beaudoin, killing him.
The fact he’s a Red Sox fan is irrelevant. This woman killed someone. But the situation likely wouldn’t have escalated to the point of someone dying without the hard feelings between Sox and Yankees fans.
So let this be a lesson to anyone involved in a heated rivalry (for me it’s Michigan-Ohio State). Never take anything too seriously. Take your verbal shots, and accept them from you oppoenent and at the end of the day you and your enemy should enjoy good old fashioned competition.
