How not to win a series

by @ 11:25 pm. Filed under 2008 Cubs

The Cubs continued their Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde act, this time in Tampa, after an 8-3 loss.

It was the first time this season that Chicago had lost three straight games, so the losing streak isn’t that alarming. It’s actually impressive that the team went this long before its first three-game losing streak.

What’s alarming, and has been all season, is the Cubs’ inability to resemble anything close to a competent ball club away from Wrigley Field.

Right now Chicago is a rediculous 29-8 at home, matched only by the Red Sox’s home record (28-7). But it’s unrealistic to believe the Cubs can continue winning at this pace when a.) they’ll be playing division opponents for the 13th, 14th or 15th time and b.) they’ll have to deal with other teams fighting for their division title lives.

Not to rain on anyone’s parade, especially the World Series one that’s been planned by some in Cubs nation, but these road woes have gone beyond “Oh, they’ll get over that.”

At least we have a big series to keep us occupied this weekend, right?
