Greetings Cubs nation. My name is H. Jose Bosch and I will be the new blogger here at The Curse of Wrigley Field. What makes me qualified to take on such a large endeavor?
- I can competently reply to a classified
- Once the school year ends I will be living with my parents so that makes me a great blogger.
- I’m Puerto Rican so that means I really love baseball. Or that I’ll become a great Major League catcher.
So on the morning of St. Patrick’s Day, rather than getting an early start to all the debauchery, I’m here in my house posting for you, the fan.
And just like me, Kosuke Fukudome, will also be starting anew with the Cubs. Unlike me he must contend with the diehard Sosa fans in right field. Wait, what? Between the corked bat, cutting out of a game early and suddenly forgetting English, there are still diehard Sosa fans? Really? The Chicago Tribune had me fooled.
Apparently Lou Piniella is leaning toward Kerry Wood to be the team’s new closer. Wood pitched an inning and struck out one in yesterday’s win over the Angels. I’ve yet to see him throw but Dave Van Dyck of the Chicago Tribune believes Wood has been dominant at times. The other two candidates, Carlos Marmol and Bobby Howry, will likely be set up men this season.
GM Jim Hendry was more than willing to tell the Chicago Sun-Times what the Cubs need before the season begins. It’s no surprise the team needs another outfielder, preferably a centerfielder, and a deal could be done during the final days of camp according to this story.
Finally, there was a game yesterday afternoon and the Cubs won it. Behind the arm of Carlos Zambrano,
Chicago downed the Angels, 4-1. Zambrano’s performance on the mound was most comforting. Six innings, one hit and six strikeouts will give just about any team a chance to win a ball game. Except the Royals. Alfonso Soriano went 3-for-4 with an eighth-inning homerun and Mike Fontenot also jacked a one-run homerun in the second inning.
So, this was the first post and I’m just getting my feet wet. Things will be much smoother once we get into a groove. The Cubs have an off day today so enjoy your St. Patrick’s Day with the full knowledge that your team won’t wear a ridiculous green uniform today.
